Happy New Year!
The years are sure going by quickly. It’s hard to believe that I have been Locksmithing for 23 years! Hope for many more…
First of all, I would like to thank all my customers for continuing to use my services over the years. Referrals and word of mouth, keep my business going!
Thank You!
Over the years there is a subject that I have found people ask me about quite often. That subject is: “What do you do when your lock is turning hard, or the key won’t go in anymore….”? The answer is very simple………..LUBE!
Here’s a couple of tidbits that will help keep your locks working smoothly:
#1. About once a year, spray your keyhole with a silicone based lubricant. I have used “Tri-Flow” for many years. It’s hard to find, but works great. WD has recently come out with a good silicone based spray. Don’t use regular WD, too messy! Runs all over, inside the lock. And if anyone has ever shot “Graphite” in that lock, and you add WD, now you have a greasy mess. I don’t recommend Graphite either.
The silicone actually clings to the springs and pins inside the lock, keeping it working well for a long time. Just one shot should do.
#2. The Deadbolt. Lube the bolt, that goes into the casing. Have a rag handy, to clean-up run off. With the door “Open”, use the thumb turn, on the inside and lock it. With the door open, you will see the “Bolt” on the edge of the door. Spray that bolt with your silicone based lube, then with a snapping motion, drag the bolt in and out a few times. This will get some of that lube into the inner working of the bolt. Spray that bolt a few times if necessary.
These are the two main places you can lube your lock to keep it working for many years, without issues, and save you bucks in the long run!
God Bless,
