Winter 2009

First of all, I want to thank you for visiting our new web site! Welcome!
About every quarter, I will be talking about various aspects of Locksmithing. Topics I feel are important to you as a homeowner, and citizen. Keeping your Security as a top priority.

Home Security

One of the most important things on my list, is the Security of my house! I want to know that when I sleep, or when away, that my family, house, and contents, are safe.

So with that in mind, here are some tidbits that can accomplish the above:

(1) Make sure you have proper Security on all outside perimeter doors. I prefer a Locking door handle, and a Deadbolt, on each door. That is two locks that Mr Thief has to compromise! The Deadbolt should have a one inch throw, and long screws, that go into the header at the strike plate. A security screen door is perfect added security, because now he has four locks to worry about. Plus, security screen doors are installed on the outside, which makes them very hard to kick in! Be sure to get a heavy screen door! I have seen some that you pull across the door…..Anyone could just walk thru that!!

If you do not have a deadbolt on each door, get one! The expense is nominal, and we install them for a modest price.
Make sure all your windows have good secure locks on them! As a standard rule, if you can shake them, and they move around, they can be compromised. You can ad clamp-on window locks for around $1.00 each.

Make sure your sliding door is secure. Same as a window, if you can move it around, it is not secure! Adding a pin on the inside, can improve the security. A stick put into the inside track can also help.

(2) There is a high percentage of residential burglaries that take place with a Key! How does that Happen? Well, somebody had a key!!! I would never move into a new house, without having it “Re-Keyed.” Prior tenants, pool service, neighbors ,lawn guy, house cleaning, kid’s friends, builders, real estate personnel, all have had a key to your house! Do you trust all of them??? Most houses can be re-keyed for less than $100.00 . Why take the risk? Call us, and we will set you up with an appointment! Also, never give your keys to anyone! Some thieves can just look at your key, and remember the cuts! Anyone can buy a key machine…..

Be Safe, Roy
